Stag-gering progress: MyriaMeat produces lab-grown deer meat
In Germany, cultivated meat startup MyriaMeat has produced functional roe deer muscle cells, extending its pluripotent stem cell platform beyond pork. Founded in 2022 as a University of Göttingen spin-off, the company told vegconomist the milestone shows that its platform technology can be extended to other animal species. The company targeted roe deer because it is popular in Germany and across Central Europe, especially among the fine dining crowd.
The company is also developing a hybrid sausage—combining cultivated pork with conventional meat—through a project supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the state of Lower Saxony.
