While there are now several producers, the origin of biovegetal fiber hair extensions can be traced to Brazilian hairstylist Marilza Eleoterio de Barcelos Silva, who created the first wigs from banana plant fibers to support a friend who was battling cancer but could not afford a human-hair wig.
