In the Philippines, D&L Polymers & Colours, Inc. has received confirmation that its bioplastics are compostable by Berlin’s DIN CERTCO, a development D&L believes will boost its international sales.

The certified products include BC 9100 for films and straws and BC 9200 for cutlery and containers. The products are now recognized as compliant with European plastics’ biodegradability standards, which include heavy metal limits and requirements for the material to biodegrade by 90% within six months.

“Biopolymers is an industry that we are developing in the Philippines. The market is now aware that we are the leaders in this technology,” DLPC Managing Director Lester Lao tells The Manila Bulletin.

“While the current contribution to our sales remains small, we are optimistic on the potential of biopolymers as the world shifts towards more sustainable and environment-friendly plastic materials.”
