Yanmar sets 2029 start for marine hydrogen engine facility

February 19, 2026 |

In Japan, Yanmar Power Solution will build a new factory in Amagasaki to test and produce marine hydrogen engines, with operations scheduled to begin around March 2029 as part of its strategy to expand next generation fuel engines.

The facility will conduct test runs of hydrogen engines and support a reorganization of Yanmar’s existing production system as output increases for both marine and land-based engines. The company said the investment anticipates rising demand as the maritime sector works toward 2050 carbon neutrality.

Drawing on its engine development and manufacturing expertise, Yanmar is also advancing powertrains capable of running on methanol and ammonia in addition to hydrogen. The new factory brings hydrogen engine testing into Yanmar’s mainstream production system as the company prepares for wider market adoption.
