Warsaw opens waste-to-energy plant to handle 30% of rubbish

March 1, 2026 |

In Poland, TVP reported that The Polish capital of Warsaw opened a new waste-to-energy plant that will burn almost a third of the city’s rubbish and turn it into electricity and heat.

The plant, called the Warsaw Energy Factory, is located in a district in northeastern Warsaw. It can process about 265,000 tons of waste a year, according to the report.

Once fully operational, more than 100 garbage trucks are expected to deliver over 1,000 tons of waste to the site each working day. The rubbish is unloaded into a 110-meter-long bunker and then fed by cranes into boilers that burn at over 850°C.

The facility is expected to produce around 100,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity and 200,000 MWh of heat annually, the report added.
