Orlen starts construction of green hydrogen hub in Poland

May 14, 2026 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Polish energy major Orlen has hired Torpol Oil & Gas as general contractor for a hydrogen hub, including a 5-MW electrolyzer to produce hydrogen for the transport sector.

The report noted that the contract foresees the construction of the electrolyzer, hydrogen storage units as well as infrastructure for fuel loading and distribution. The facility will start operating at the turn of 2027/28, using renewable energy.

The location of the hub in northern Szczecin has been strategically chosen to be linked to the European TEN-T transport corridors and the hydrogen infrastructure developed by Orlen in northwestern Poland, according to the Polish company.

The project is part of the “Clean Cities – Hydrogen Mobility in Poland” program, for which Orlen got a $72 million grant from the EU in 2024.
