April 13, 2026 |

In Michigan, Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, a company genetically engineering silkworms to produce recombinant spider silk for high‑performance industrial, textile, and defense applications, has successfully produced 1.3 metric tons of recombinant spider silk cocoons in a single month.

The milestone represents not only a record-setting achievement but a “clear validation of the Company’s execution strategy and operational scale-up model,” the company said in a press statement.

“Our roadmap has always been clear,” said Kim Thompson, Founder and CEO of Kraig Labs. “This level of production demonstrates that our systems work, our partnerships are strong, and our strategy is sound. The work we are doing now is about scaling faster, refining processes, and closing the gap to our next major production target.”
