Green Science Alliance gives gel nails a plant-based polish
TPO is a photopolymerization initiator that enables gel nail polish to cure under LED or UV light. While TPO is not subject to cosmetic ingredient restrictions in Japan, its use in cosmetics has been banned in Europe because of concerns about reproductive toxicity based on animal testing. HEMA is a primary resin ingredient in gel nail polish that also cures under LED or UV light, but it is associated with the risk of allergic reactions.
Although several TPO- and HEMA-free gel nail products are already available, products that are free of both ingredients while also being plant-based or bioderived remain extremely rare in both domestic and international markets. Green Science Alliance’s polish will be available on their e-commerce website from September 17.
