eCap Marine to supply hydrogen systems for four ships
In Germany, eCap Marine has won contracts to supply hydrogen propulsion systems for four vessels due in 2027: two Samskip container ships under construction at Cochin Shipyard in India and two Møre Sjø bulk carriers ordered from Gelibolu Shipyard in Türkiye. The systems will use PEM fuel cells to power the ships without emissions during hydrogen operation.
Samskip’s SeaShuttles will each receive 3.2 MW fuel cell systems integrated into containers on the aft deck. Samskip says the vessels will be the world’s first short sea container ships to use green hydrogen as fuel.
The 85 meter Møre Sjø bulk carriers will each use 1.7 MW fuel cells and permanently installed compressed hydrogen tanks holding more than 2 tons. eCap Marine will also supply hydrogen bunkering stations, power electronics, controls, safety systems and interfaces with the ships’ power management systems.
“These projects are a significant milestone for eCap Marine,” Managing Director Lars Ravens said.
