Dutch fast food major Kwalitaria taps Notpla for seaweed-based packaging
In the Netherlands, Dutch quick-service restaurant Kwalitaria is using home compostable trays made from Notpla’s seaweed-based plastic. Developed in collaboration with Compax, a Dutch company that specializes in packaging solutions, particularly disposables and food packaging, rollout of the fries and snack packaging at 160 Kwalitaria locations is expected to prevent 102.5 metric tons of CO2 and 6.9 metric tons of plastics waste from being generated.
“[T]his partnership is about more than replacing a material,” Pierre Paslier, CEO and co-founder at Notpla, told Packaging Insights. “It shows that plastic-free packaging can work at scale in real-world [quick service restaurant] settings, without compromising on performance, food safety, or customer experience.”
