Brazilian sorghum exports gain momentum in August, boosted by China.
In Brazil, CNN Brasil reported that Brazilian sorghum exports scheduled for August total at least 400,000 tons, with China taking a large share of the shipments, in a move that marks the effective start of Brazilian exports of this cereal to the Asian country.
After Brazil managed to authorize exporters to export sorghum to China at the end of last year, the country made its first export of this grain to the Chinese in January since 2014 — but in a volume of 25 tons, seen as a test, according to the report.
The shipping schedule for August includes six ships carrying sorghum from Brazil, totaling 407,700 tons, provided no operations are postponed to September due to unforeseen circumstances, according to data from the maritime agency Cargonave, the report added.
