In Massachusetts, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology used new single-cell genetic techniques to discover four new types of while blood cells that humans use during the body’s immune response. Two of the new cells are dendritic cells which give the warning and tells other cells that the body is being attacked during an infection. The other two newly discovered cells are monocytes that surround and chow down on the nasty invaders to prevent them from harming the body. Dr Divya Shah, from Wellcome Trust which helped fun the study told the Daily Mail “The next step is to find out what each of these cell types do in our immune system, both when we’re healthy and during disease.”
