Zimbabwe abinet approves sugarcane strategy with major ethanol push
In Zimbabwe, the Cabinet approved the Zimbabwe Sugarcane Industry Development Plan 2026-2035) which seeks to make the sector globally competitive and climate resilient. The plan targets to increase sugarcane yield from 81 mt/ha to 110 mt/ha, expanding ethanol production from 155 million liters to 600 million liters, electricity generation from 23 MW to 200 MW and boosting sugar exports from 100,000 tons to 200,000 tons. Green Fuel is the country’s only standalone ethanol producer, but Triangle and Hippo Valley sugar companies also produce ethanol.
