Waste-to-energy market to reach $ 58.8 billion by 2036, research finds

February 22, 2026 |

In Delaware, Transparency Market Research reported that the global waste-to-energy market was valued at $ 30.7 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $ 58.8 Billion by 2036, expanding at a CAGR of 6.1% from 2026 to 2036.

The research firm noted that rising energy demand, increasing waste generation due to rapid urbanization, and favorable regulatory frameworks are key contributors to this growth trajectory.

Europe dominated the industry in 2025, accounting for 39.5% of global revenue, followed by Asia Pacific (30.5%) and North America (20.8%). By waste type, municipal solid waste (MSW) led the market with a substantial 65.5% share in 2025, the report said.

“As environmental pressures mount and landfill capacity shrinks, waste-to-energy is emerging as a critical solution that addresses both waste disposal and energy generation challenges simultaneously,” it added.
