Valencian government approves funds for renewable hydrogen and sustainable fuels projects
In Spain, Retama reported that the Valencian regional government has approved a direct grant of $88.4 million to bp Energía España and its subsidiary Castellón Green Hydrogen Phase 2 to develop a strategic energy investment plan for the region. The initiative, fully funded by the ERDF Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027 progra , includes two flagship projects focused on the production of renewable hydrogen and sustainable fuels , with implementation planned between 2026 and 2029.
The Valencian Government believes this program will have a positive impact on Valencian industry by fostering technological innovation, the integration of renewable energy into new industrial sectors, and the competitiveness of sectors linked to decarbonization, according to the report.
Of the total amount approved, $77.1 million corresponds to Castellón Green Hydrogen Phase 2, SL , to develop Project Tractor 1 , focused on a large-scale renewable hydrogen demonstrator pilot. The remaining $11.3 million is allocated to bp Energía España, SAU to execute Project Tractor 2 , dedicated to the development of advanced pretreatment technologies for sustainable biofuels.
The Tractor 2 Project envisions the construction of a pre-treatment plant for the production of alternative fuels to petroleum derivatives, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) for road transport, according to the report.
