Ukraine may boost canola plantings due to Middel East conflict
In the Ukraine, Reuters reports that if the Middle East conflict continues to drag on, then Ukraine could boost its canola planted area to 1.5 million hectares, a third more than originally planned for this autum season. Ukraine plants winter rapeseed that is harvested in the spring and planted in the fall, so farmers would have to decide soon what to sacrifice in exchange for growing more canola to supply food and biodiesel markets primarily in Europe.
