Singapore, Los Angeles and Long Beach renew trans-Pacific green shipping pact

April 23, 2026 |

In Singapore, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach have renewed a three-year memorandum of understanding on green and digital shipping along the trans-Pacific route, one of the world’s busiest container trade lanes, with methanol emerging as the ports’ shared focus for alternative fuel trials.

Singapore completed methanol bunkering trials in 2023 and has since issued three supply licenses. Los Angeles and Long Beach are preparing for their own methanol pilot this year. The partners have also begun port-to-port data exchange testing and started pilot work with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

The corridor was first established in 2023. Its renewal, signed during Singapore Maritime Week, signals a shift the partners describe as moving from intent to implementation.
