NYK Line, Golden Island and Yara team up to sell ammonia fuel in Singapore

April 23, 2026 |

In Singapore, Japan’s NYK Line, local bunker supplier Golden Island and Norwegian ammonia producer Yara Clean Ammonia have signed a non-binding term sheet to jointly market and supply ammonia as a marine fuel in Singapore, the world’s largest bunkering port, with operations targeted to begin before 2030.

The deal brings together a ship operator, a bunker trader and a fuel producer in what the partners are calling a full supply chain play for a fuel that has yet to crack commercial scale. Ammonia produces no carbon dioxide when burned, making it one of the more promising candidates to replace conventional marine fuels in the 2030s, but building the infrastructure to handle it safely remains the industry’s central challenge.
