Port of Santos begins regular ethanol bunkering for ships

October 30, 2026 |

In Brazil, CMA CGM, Copersucar, Bunker One, AGEO Terminais, Santos Brasil, and the Port Authority of Santos have initiated regular ethanol bunkering operations for ships at the Port of Santos.

The first operation occurred on October 19th, with the bunkering of the CMA CGM IRON, a 13,000 TEU container ship equipped with the world’s first tri-fuel engine certified to operate with ethanol: the Everllence-B&W G95ME-C10.5-LGIM, according to the report.

“After the first operation in July, we are now moving into a new phase, demonstrating that ethanol can be incorporated into maritime operations safely, reliably, and on a commercial scale. This initiative reinforces CMA CGM’s commitment to accelerating the adoption of lower carbon intensity solutions and supporting the development of new energy ecosystems for the maritime sector,” says Giovani Grassi, CEO of CMA CGM do Brasil.

The ethanol produced by Copersucar’s associated mills is supplied and transported to the Port of Santos by Evolua Etanol, a Copersucar Ecosystem company, where it is stored by AGEO Terminais.
