Ponda’s un-peat-able plant-based puff wins Pride in Our Planet Award
In London, a company that has developed a plant-based insulation solution that also restores habitats has been named Innovator of the Year by the Pride in Our Planet Awards. Dubbed Ponda, the company restores the UK’s peatlands by growing bulrush, which it then converts into goose down alternative BioPuff. The material has already attracted attention from sustainable fashion pioneers Stella McCartney and Berghaus.
“We have always argued that restoring nature and building a real business are not opposing goals,” said Ponda CEO and co-founder, Julian Ellis-Brown. “Britain’s wetlands can be productive, profitable and permanent.”
The Pride in Our Planet Awards is in its inaugural year. The award was founded by climate influencer Sam Bentley and media company Sky to celebrate “unsung climate and nature heroes,” according to Fashion United.
