Pertamina seeks ethanol import excise exemption
In Indonesia, the Jakarta Post newspaper reports Pertamina is seeking an excise exemption for imported ethanol to help accelerate the country’s biofuel rollout. The request is aimed at reducing the cost of ethanol imports and supporting the availability of feedstock as Indonesia expands gasoline blending. Pertamina has been working to develop higher ethanol-blended fuels as part of the government’s strategy to reduce petroleum-import dependence and strengthen energy security. An exemption could improve the economics of imported ethanol while domestic production capacity develops, although the policy could also affect the competitiveness of locally produced ethanol.
