Peninsula and Itochu form venture to supply ammonia at European ports
In Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium, Peninsula and Itochu established I&P Marine Ammonia on July 8 to develop ammonia bunkering at the ports of Algeciras, Rotterdam and Antwerp-Bruges. The companies did not disclose an investment amount or a timetable for beginning fuel deliveries.
The venture follows a 2023 agreement to develop ammonia supply chains and bunkering infrastructure. Itochu will contribute fuel procurement and supply-chain development, while Peninsula will provide bunkering operations, customer relationships and a marine fuel network covering more than 500 ports.
The three ports will serve as the venture’s initial hubs as the partners work to connect ammonia production and transport with storage and ship refueling infrastructure in Europe and the Mediterranean.
