Paraguay’s soybean crop to fall as yields normalize
In Paraguay, World Grain reported that Paraguay’s soybean production is seen topping out at 11.1 million tons for marketing year 2026-27 as yields normalize on largely unchanged planted area following a record year in 2025-26, according to a report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture.
In its annual oilseeds report, the FAS forecasts planted area for Paraguay’s two soybean crops to total 3.5 million hectares, down just 100,000 hectares year on year with a slight shift to corn.
“However, yields are projected to decline from the current season’s records, as an anticipated El Niño weather pattern typically results in less favorable growing conditions in Paraguay and lower yields,” the FAS said, projecting production to fall 1 million tons.
Paraguay’s soybean shipments for 2026-27 are projected to decline 1 million tons, to 7.3 million. Of these exports, 75% to 85% will go to neighboring Argentina, which typically consumes the bulk of Paraguay’s soybean production to feed its massive crush industry, the FAS said.
