In West Virgina, Fruth Pharmacy is partnering with MD Labs to offer genetic testing to help determine how our genetics play a role in how we absorb and react to medications. Their testing covers over 200 medications and allows patients to know in advance if they have a marker that can indicate allergies or low tolerance for a particular medication so they can put that on their “don’t ever take this” list. Doctors can prescribe the same medication for two different people and one can end up in the hospital from it, while the other is fine. That is where this genetic testing can really help to let people know ahead of time if they have a particular genetic marker that could cause a bad reaction to their medication.
