In Japan, scientists at Yokohama National University found that McDonald’s fries are good for something other than a Happy Meal side. A chemical McDonald’s uses to prevent the oil from frothing when cooking French fries, called dimethylpolysiloxane, has proven handy for baldness as well.

Using mice instead of bald men, the scientists found that the chemical helps produce follicles when hair is transplanted. They were able to produce up to 5,000 hair follicle germs at the same time and once those follicles were transplanted on mice backs and scalps, they started to grow new black hairs in those areas. But eating McDonald’s fries isn’t going to help your hair grow, as the research showed that while the chemical helped the follicles support hair growth, the chemical by itself does not cause hair growth.
