In the Netherlands, biobased polyethylene furanoate producer Avantium has partnered with Auping, Monosuisse, and Antex to develop PEF-based yarns for use in Auping mattresses. Avantium will lead the development, production, supply, and recycling of PEF, while Monosuisse and Antex will focus on developing different types of PEF yarns. Auping will test the design and manufacturing of mattresses using the PEF-based fabric.
Geert Doorslag, a researcher at Auping, believes Auping’s goal of having a fully circular product range by 2030 is achievable via biobased PEF.
