In London, Prince William recently toured an East London facility operated by bioplastic firm Notpla, which won his Earthshot competition in 2022. During the tour, the prince called the seaweed-based plastic maker’s progress since winning the £1 million  award late last year “breathtaking,” reports UK paper The Standard

The newly titled Prince of Wales launched the Earthshot Prize in 2020. The prize will hand out £50 million over 10 years to organizations working to address the world’s most persistent environmental problems.

He also commented on Notpla’s recently developed biodegradable cutlery, which is produced by injection-molding seaweed and plant extracts.  “That’s really exciting,” the Prince said. He later ate pizza from a nearby pub that was served on a seaweed plastic tray.
