REI’s biobased trail running shoe promises lighter impact on Earth and body

In Seattle, outdoor gear and apparel brand REI Co-op has released its first running shoe in more than 40 years.

According to a press statement, all major components of the Swiftland MT are designed with carbon-reduced technology and use recycled or biobased materials. Renewable elements include  a 10% Bloom Algae TerraLoft™ RUN compound in midsole and 30% Bloom Algae sock in TrailBed™ liner.

“We want runners to experience the sense of spontaneity and excitement an unpaved path can bring,” said Bennet Grimes, REI senior product manager for footwear. “With the Swiftland MT, customers can confidently explore new adventures and feel good about their lighter impact on the planet.”

The Swiftland MT trail running shoe is available at REI and on REI.com for $130.
