In Ireland, Nuritas is getting some rock star support from U2’s Bono and The Edge for their work in preventative diabetes research. Founded by Dr. Nora Khaldi, a computational biologist and mathematician, Nuritas is using high tech ways to find genetic and biochemical treatments for diseases like diabetes.
Their recent discovery found a peptide related to Type 2 diabetes that may be able to actually prevent diabetes from even developing in the first place. Their hope is to find ways to include the peptide in new drugs or even add it as ingredients in processed foods to help prevent diabetes. Trials are expected to start in 2018 with actual market placement by 2020. Stay tuned for that box of crackers that has a new label touting it helps prevent diabetes.
