In the Netherlands, biotech firm NoPalm Ingredients has signed an agreement with NIZO Food Research to set up a demonstration-scale factory for its fermentation-based oils process technology at NIZO’s Ede food innovation campus.

The facility will be the first time NoPalm Ingredients will run its full processes for producing sustainable palm and other tropical oil alternatives, such as coconut oil and shea butter alternatives, under one roof. The unit is expected to have a starting capacity of “several hundred tons per year,” eventually growing to over 1,200 tons. First industrial production is planned for the second half of 2026, with further growth in 2027 and 2028.

“We have proven that our technology works, and by taking the entire process into our own hands, we maintain maximum control over every step: from raw material to end product. This guarantees consistent quality, high standards, and security of supply, and with that, a solid foundation for long-term partnerships with customers who want to become more sustainable and grow,” said Julie Cortal, CCO, in a press statement.
