Polybion and Fashion for Good team up for circular fashion

In Madrid, biomaterial firm Polybion has partnered with the Fashion for Good incubator to advance Polybion’s bacterial leather and Fashion for Good’s circular fashion industry goals.

The deal, which comes several months after Polybion participated in Fashion for Good’s annual innovation program, also includes an undisclosed investment in Polybion by the incubator.

Polybion uses microbial fermentation to convert food waste into a plant-based materials. Its first product, Celium, is being marketed as an alternative to animal and synthetic leather. According to vegconomist, Polybion operates a production plant in Irapuato, Mexico.

Fashion for Good is a global initiative to “inspire change and drive the collective movement” to make fashion a force for good. “We work directly with the fashion industry to innovate towards solutions that are better for people and the planet and empower behavior change through our sustainable fashion Museum,” according to Fashion for Good’s website.
