In India, Seed Paper India has produced Indian flags that are made out of seaweed paper and biodegradable within 30 days. Currently available in Bengaluru—the capital of India’s southern Karnataka state—Seed Paper India has already sold 10,000 of the tri-color flags to ITC Hotels. Early buyers also include corporations, resident welfare groups, and NGOs.

“The initiative is aimed at increasing awareness and making Bengaluru the sustainability hub of the world,” Seed Paper India Founder Roshan Ray told New Indian Express. “This is a new experiment for us and we are creating more awareness about it, especially amongst youngsters. In fact, youngsters in the age group of 18-28 are very interested in the initiative and have bought many of the flags.”  Just one kilogram of seaweed can produce 20-25 tri-color flags, he added.
