The deal includes a multi-year capacity reservation pact, wherein Terphane commits to procuring renewable PEF from Origin to convert into BOPEF. Applications for the stretched biopolymer film include food and beverage packaging and uses in the industrial sector.
Terphane’s global director of Research and Development, Marcos Vieira, said in a press release that the BOPEF has similar characteristics to conventional polyethylene terephthalate films, including recyclability. However, the use of PEF in the film endows it with exceptional thermal resistance and superior barrier attributes, extending the shelf life of packaged products.
