In the United Kingdom, Eco Green Living is selling compostable diapers made from bamboo.

Developed in partnership with Eco Boom,  the company hopes the nappies help address the almost 3 billion disposable diapers that are thrown out in the UK annually. Conventional plastic diapers can take up to 500 years to break down, releasing greenhouse gases such as methane in the process, according to Business Manchester. By comparison, Eco Boom degrades in just 75 days.

Julie Cook, manager at Eco Green Living, tells the publication bamboo is underrated, given it is naturally organic and regrows quickly. “There is simply no need for the historic standard disposable products to be on shelf, it must stop, and we are launching this range in partnership with Eco Boom to challenge the status quo,” she adds.

Bamboo is seven times more durable, absorbent, and softer than cotton. The diapers are naturally hypoallergenic and free of harmful chemicals. Aloe oil is added prevent rash or irritation.

Eco Green Living also sells compostable nappy bags, bamboo baby wipes, and sanitary pads.
