In New Jersey, biobased materials firm Modern Meadow has been named a finalist in three categories of Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards.

The company’s Bio-Alloy platform delivers 13 miscible blends of plant-based proteins and biopolymers. The blends provide varying mechanical and thermal properties with a number of commercial applications.  Modern Meadow’s BioFabbrica Bio-Tex™, for example, has been used in Senreve Vegan Terra luxury handbags and will be used by Everlane in a tote slated for its fall collection. BioFabbrica Bio-Tex is a lightweight vegan leather alternative that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% compared to traditional, chrome-tanned leather.

“We have worked tirelessly to create an innovative technology platform that can be dropped into any brand’s existing infrastructure in order to make the use of sustainable materials more adoptable, scalable, and ultimately drive consumer change,” says Catherine Roggero-Lovisi, Modern Meadow CEO. “We are honored that Fast Company has recognized that our Bio-Alloy™ technology can make an impact in so many different categories.”

In its 11th year, Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards honor designers and companies solving crucial problems in design. Modern Meadow advances to the next round the Fashion and Beauty, Materials, and Sustainability Categories.
