In the United Kingdom, bike brand Hummingbird has launched an ultralight e-bike produced with a flax frame. Weighing just 22 lbs, the Hummingbird Flax folding e-bike features a streamlined look, with the motor, controller and battery within the bike’s case. It can go up to 31 miles at Europe’s top legal bike speed of 15.5 mph.

“The Electric Hummingbird with Flax frame is the ultimate city bike: it will enable you to cycle further, faster and with less effort,” according to Hummingbird’s website. “Simple design at its best, introducing the lightest folding electric bike in the world.”

Sustainable cycling comes at a cost of £4,995 (US$6,050) in the UK and £4,162 (US $5,040) globally. According to electrek.co, the high cost comes largely from elements such as the carbon fiber seat and titanium hardware.
