In Japan, DIC Corporation has signed a joint research pact with California’s Debut Biotechnology targeting natural pigments for food colorants and cosmetics.

Debut’s continuous, cell-free biomanufacturing technology overcomes the limitations of natural pigments extraction, which includes low yields, excessive waste generation, exposure to fluctuating weather patterns, and high land and water use.

“DIC hopes to combine Debut’s advanced knowledge of enzyme reactions and process design with DIC’s scale-up technology, quality control, and product development capabilities to develop and commercialize new sustainable, high value-added bio-based colorants, pigments, and healthy foods for global markets,” says DIC Managing Executive Officer Kiyofumi Takano in a press statement.
