In Italy, Novamont has expanded capacity for its ORIGO-BI biopolyester from 120,000 tons per year to 150,000 tons.

“Novamont’s industrialization efforts over the last few years have been enormous and have few equals anywhere in Europe,” Catia Bastioli, Novamont’s CEO, tells Packaging Europe. “All in all, we must work together towards a regenerative approach to natural resources, which should be seen as a great opportunity to redesign our society on a sustainable basis with its roots in the land, more inclusively and contributively, where there is equal space for the big and the small. In all of this the world of agriculture and the soil and its preservation and regeneration are of vital importance.”

The additional capacity will help Novamont meet the demands of a recent compostable bags supply deals throughout Europe, including Co-op in the UK, Leclerc in France, Carrefour in France and Italy, Coop in Finland, Delhaize in Belgium, and Esselunga in Italy.

Novamont adds that recent and planned investments in the facility, located south of Rome, will reach  €100 million.
