In the Netherlands, Lelystad dairy farm is offering their milk in Europe’s first biobased milk container, made from 100% biobased PE from renewable material, sugarcane, instead of fossil fuel based raw materials. Starting this week, the new biobased milk container is available at Albert Heijn supermarkets. The entire package is biobased, including a biobased cap and biobased sleeve.
The biobased PE is not biodegradable, but it is recyclable like regular plastic. Albert Heijn was the first customer to make this step possible by introducing AH organic milk into biobased cans of 2 liters, according to FlevoPost. The milk container was developed in collaboration with Green PE supplier Braskem.
