In the Netherlands, Amsterdam Schiphol airport released CGI renderings of its new pier and announced completion of the foundation and that construction will now begin. The pier will include sustainability features such as biomaterials being used in the pier along with reusable plastic and marble rubblework tiles, insulating glass, and recycled rainwater to flush toilets.
The pier will be about 5,000sqm set to be installed on the 55,000sqm building. It will have five gates for narrow-body aircraft on the north side and three gates for wide-body planes on the south side and is set to open by the end of 2019. Two additional wide-body gates are expected to be added at a later stage. The pier project is part of the airport’s expansion project which also includes a new terminal being built and set to open in 2023.
