In the Netherlands, Deputy Harry van der Maas from the province of Zeeland drove around on a biobased scooter made entirely from recycled materials to highlight Zeeland’s drive towards sustainability. One of 12 provinces in the Netherlands, Zeeland was the first one to buy such a scooter made for employees who have to take a short ride in the area. Zeeland has a deep history of implementing more sustainable and eco-friendly materials in government policy, recently being nominated for the KoopWijsPrijs award of the House of Representatives for their environmental leadership.
Even the province’s cafeteria is green with all plates and cutlery, napkins and packaging made from biodegradable material and a composting machine to process food waste and biodegradable material into compost for the government’s gardens.
