In California, an Illumina spin-off DNA sequencing company called GRAIL, might have just found the Holy Grail of cancer prevention – a way to know if you have cancer before you have any symptoms. From a newly developed blood test, tiny pieces of mutated DNA that are too small to be found through any other means can now be found. Scientists were able to separate out mutations from just getting older from mutations caused by actual cancer. They plan on conducting larger scale studies in order to further determine the effectiveness of the blood test at detecting cancer before X-rays or other tests can detect it.
