In the Netherlands, two friends developed a motorcycle built from wood that runs completely on algae based biofuel. Their goal was to look at algae as a sustainable biofuel for a new book called “De Dikke Alg” or “The Thick Algae.” Algae is recognized as a carbon neutral biofuel since it emits carbon dioxide when burned similar to fossil fuel but uses up carbon dioxide to photosynthesis, balancing each other out. Ritsert Mans was the designer who developed the motorcycle while Peter Mooji was the scientist who grew the algae and converted it into fuel. Watch a video of their very first test run on a beach.
