Healthy Choice frozen entrees to switch to plant-based packaging

In Chicago, Conagra Foods, the food company behind the popular frozen entrées Healthy Choice, says it will be replacing plastic with microwave-safe serving bowls made from plant-based fiber in its newest line product line.

“[The fiber] performs very well coming out of the microwave, being much cooler to the touch than the plastic container itself,” Darren Serrao, chief growth officer of Conagra Brands, said at the company’s recent investor day. “And for added bonus, knowing how consumers are very concerned about sustainability, these are completely recyclable and entirely compostable, which allows us to drive sustainability by eliminating plastic from single-use containers, reducing energy, and our impact on the environment to boot.”

The new packaging will be used in Conagra Brands’ new high-protein line Healthy Choice Power Bowls. They will be rolling out this month, with full distribution expected by August.
