In the United Kingdom, Hull-based natural ingredient cleaning product maker Bio-D is seeing 30% growth internationally, with particularly keen interest from Chinese consumers.
Bio-D’s naturally-derived cleaning products—including laundry liquids and furniture polish—are free of synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and enzymes.
Far from a niche product, Bio-D cleaners are sold in five Chinese provinces, including large department stores. “Historically, China has lagged behind other countries in terms of its interest and investment in environmental matters; we’re now seeing rapid growth as the country catches up,” Bio-D managing director Lloyd Atkin tells the Hull Daily Mail. “We’re leading the eco cleaning industry over there. While consumer demand for greener alternatives is growing, there are still very few producers making products like ours that are natural, hypoallergenic, cruelty free and vegan friendly.”
Ray Ren, who works for Bio-D’s Chinese distributor TCOAI Trading, adds that Chinese consumers place “great trust” in British-made products, which has helped Bio-D grow faster than other global brands making similar natural ingredient claims.
