A new hydrocarbon brew: The Digest’s 2017 Multi-Slide Guide to Technical Market Analysis for Biochemical Conversion

As the project team behind this presentation explains, there’s trouble right here in River City when it comes to accessing good market and technical data on making hydrocarbons from a biochemical process.

Process and economic data on hydrocarbon production via bioconversion that are freely available to industry are limited. Data at industrially-relevant scales are limited because published research focuses mainly on compound discovery at lab-scale production levels (<5g/L).  Data on the upgrading options for hydrocarbon fuel precursors are limited because most bioconversion microbes do not directly produce market-ready diesel, jet, or other fuels.

But good news, DOE commissioned PNNL’s Jim Collett and Mark Butcher to look into it, and they came up with this illuminating presentation which first surfaced at the DOE’s most recent Project Peer Review sessions.
