In the Netherlands, Eindhoven University students have designed a four-seat electric car that weighs just 300 kilograms, thanks to a light-weight biobased composite material made from flax.
The material is similar to carbon fiber, but is 90% biobased. Sandwich panels with 95% biobased polylactic acid were also used to form the car’s chassis.
The students, which nicknamed the car Lina, designed the car’s battery to be easily swappable. It can also be unlocked with a smartphone, making it ideal for ride sharing.
