Ningbo-Zhoushan Port bunkers green methanol for COSCO
In China, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port supplied 5,493 tons of green methanol to the COSCO Shipping Libra at Meidong Terminal on August 23 fueling with the new dedicated methanol bunker vessel China Fuel Green Energy 85 as simultaneous cargo operations were underway.
The China Fuel Green Energy 85, an IMO Type 2 chemical tanker, just entered service July 31 and has already enabled Ningbo-Zhoushan Port to provide dedicated capacity for large volume ship to ship methanol deliveries. This bunkering is seemingly overshadowed by the 8,016 tons of green methanol recently delivered at anchorage in Shanghai, but the Ningbo operation took place alongside a working terminal. Ningbo now offers commercial scale green methanol bunkering during normal port calls.
In 2025, Ningbo-Zhoushan bunkered 174,000 tons of cleaner marine fuels, ranking third in China for volume of alternative marine fuels. That volume included 60,000 tons of biofuel, 111,300 tons of LNG, and 230 tons of green methanol in a demonstration bunkering.
