MOL joins Delfin floating LNG project off Louisiana
In Japan, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said it has made a final investment decision to invest in Delfin Midstream’s floating LNG project off Louisiana, moving the Japanese shipping company into offshore LNG production for the first time.
The project, backed by Delfin Midstream, Global Infrastructure Partners and Vitol, will build a floating liquefaction facility about 40 miles off the southern Louisiana coast. Gas from the US mainland will move by existing pipeline to the facility, where it will be liquefied, loaded onto LNG carriers and delivered to buyers. MOL said the project will have annual liquefaction capacity of 4.4 million tonnes and is expected to begin production around 2030. MOL plans to invest about $300 million. The project has long-term LNG sales contracts with Centrica, Expand Energy, Vitol and Gunvor.
