Lydian secures $43 million Series A for synthetic aviation fuel tech

August 4, 2026 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that US synthetic aviation fuel start-up Lydian has closed a $43-million Series A financing led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures to support the launch of its PIVOT production platform.

The investment represents the first announced deployment from Breakthrough Energy Ventures’ oneworld BEV Fund, a strategic investment vehicle supported by airlines to advance sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technologies. The round also involved AP Ventures, Builders Vision and existing investors Congruent Ventures, Galvanize, Grok Ventures, Overture, Union Square Ventures and Voyager Ventures, according to the report.

According to Lydian, its PIVOT platform reduces plant capital costs by more than 50% compared to competing technologies. The platform turns captured carbon dioxide and hydrogen into drop-in SAF using a modular production system. It is purpose-built for low-cost renewable electricity. The platform operates flexibly alongside intermittent renewable power, which reduces electricity costs, the report added.

Lydian is currently operating a pilot plant at its R&D center in Boston and is targeting to have a commercial demonstration facility in operation in 2028.
